The frequent service on the Bittern Line from Norwich via North Walsham and Cromer to Sheringham (roughly every hour) means that Festival goers can safely drink without driving: the last train back at night is the 11.46 pm from the Bittern Line station just across the road.

 Norwich Beer Festival

 The 2009 32nd Norwich Beer Festival, organised by the Norwich & Norfolk Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), was  held at St. Andrew's Hall from October 26th to 31st 2009, Phipps NBC's IPA and Red Star featured

Cock & Bull Real Beer Festival, Stony Stratford

September 4th and 5th

"A mere half a firkin was all we could spare for the tomatoes at the end of a highly successful real ale weekend in Stony Stratford. 20 real beers and coders, mostly from breweries (fairly) adjacent to Stony, slipped down a treat.

First to go again was the recently revived Phipps IPA (check their website for details of the re-introduction of this much-loved Northampton beer from 40 years ago). This was closely followed by a couple of the Frog Islands - just like last year; what creatures of habit we are.

Some terrific music from Acchord, large helpings of Ken's home-made curries, and some tasty wines from the FarTrade stall, all aded to the convivial atmosphere and raised £1500 for York House. Thanks to all who helped and supported "

IPA and Red Star  to feature at the Big Session Festival in Leicester, 19th, 20th, 21st June.

Chopper from Oysterband wrote;
During May and June of this year I was involved in a very enjoyable musical walking tour with John Jones and the Reluctant Ramblers. Yes, we played a show every night and walked to the next venue the following day, usually walking 6 to 8 hours a day.

Starting in Hay-on-Wye we strode through the Welsh Marches and then up through the midlands, ending up at Oysterband's Big Session Festival in Leicester. There was thirst to be slaked and we sampled a lot of fine ale on the way. When we got to the festival we were greeted by our former sound engineer and record producer Alaric Neville who was presenting his Phipps IPA and Red Star, he even gave us our own barrel for the dressing room!

I can honestly say that after two weeks of sampling some of the best real ale in the country I would rank Phipps in my top 3, along with Doom Bar and Mad Goose

P.S. can we have another barrel next year?

The beer festival was a great success with guest of honour was Mr Charles Johnson 99, retired brewer for NBC until 1957.

Mr Robinson, who lives in Spencer, Northampton, said: "I never expected to see the NBC beer come back again. I don't think there is anything better than a local beer." (see Chroncile & Echo for the full article  2nd May).

Phipps NBC IPA and Red Star Bitter sold out at the Northamptonshire Beer Festival 28th to 30th May .

20th/21st Feb 09

Phipps NBC attended its first ever beer festival, organised by the The Cock & Bull Society , a group dedicated to the sharing of humour and pleasure, There were 18 beers and two real ciders, mostly from Buckinghamshire and neighbouring counties. The Phipps IPA took the prize for the first barrel to go, sold out by 8.00pm on the first day. Such was the success of the event that next year's is already being planned, and there is likely to be an autumn 2009 festival to compliment it; their website will keep you informed. www.cockandbull.org.uk
